Several new startups were unveiled at a recent event hosted by Inno-Negev, BGU’s technology accelerator, which successfully concluded its first cycle.

The evening, dubbed “Demo Day,” showcased 11 startups in the field of communication and information. They were chosen from 130 teams that included more than 300 entrepreneurs. Most of the entrepreneurs were from Beer-Sheva and the surrounding area, including BGU students and alumni, and alumni of elite IDF technology units.

Startups presented at the event included FituUp, an online system for sports and workout sessions; CyBellum, a cyber security initiative; Goodies, a unique system for global price comparisons that  includes tax and shipping; Voxi, a device to silence noise in urban environments; and Mathodix, a system that checks how pupils solve math problems.

Launched in 2015, Inno-Negev is a joint venture of the BGU Bengis Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at BGU’s Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management, together with the University’s technology transfer company, BGN Technologies Ltd. It provides startups and high-tech entrepreneurs with the support and essential tools needed to advance their ventures. As to the success of the program, the results speak for themselves.

“This is an expression of the power of the innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem BGU is nurturing in Beer-Sheva,” says BGU President Prof. Rivka Carmi.

“Inno-Negev has surpassed every success indicator that we defined,” says Yossi Shavit, Inno-Negev’s director. “The number of applicants was double what we predicted, which demonstrates the need for such a support framework.

“The number of mentors who agreed to volunteer to help the entrepreneurs, their quality and the extent of the support they offered, exceeded all expectations,” adds Shavit.
