New Stem Cell Fund at BGU
January 24, 2013
BGU has established a stem cell research fund thanks to a generous contribution from Rhoda Baruch, in memory of her late husband, Dr. Jordan Baruch.
The Baruchs are from Chevy Chase and the founders of the Washington-Baltimore Region of American Associates of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
Dr. Baruch was a scientist and inventor with several patents for sound-dampening technology and loudspeaker systems. He also served as assistant secretary of commerce for science and technology under President Jimmy Carter.
The Jacob Baruch Stem Cell Research Fund will support scholarly collaboration between various medical and pharmacological researchers, stem biologists and tissue engineers.
“The stem cell center is a new endeavor [for BGU],” says Keren Waranch, director of Americans for Ben-Gurion University’s Washington/Baltimore region. “This is one of the top priorities for BGU President Rivka Carmi and for the school. This endowment fund is a big step in the fulfilling their plans.”
