David Brodet, a former director general of Israel’s Ministry of Finance and current chairman of Ben-Gurion University’s Executive Committee, and Prof. Arie Arnon, of BGU’s Department of Economics, want inflation and an increased budget deficit in Israel. In today’s economy, they say, the worst thing the government can do is to do nothing.
“I will be very happy when inflation comes back,” Brodet says in an interview with The Jerusalem Report.
“A lot of people are only now beginning to realize that this is not a standard business-cycle downturn. This is a major crisis,” Arnon tells The Report. “Fine-tuning is not enough here; dramatic action is called for,” he says, arguing that only strong government intervention can have an impact.
