This webinar is dedicated to the memories of Ilan Ramon, Israel’s first astronaut, Rona (his wife) and Assaf (his son).

Prof. Dan Blumberg, the Simon Family Chair in Remote Sensing, is vice president for industrial and regional development at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) as well as director of the University’s Homeland Security Institute. A former chair of the Department of Geography and Environmental Development, his research on remote sensing spans a wide range of homeland security applications, including rapid response, target and anomaly detection, and situational awareness. Prof. Blumberg is also the founder of the Green Campus initiative, which has earned BGU the ranking of the most environmentally sustainable university in Israel and one of the top “green” universities in the world. A member of the International Academy of Astronautics, Prof. Blumberg founded the Earth and Planetary Image Facility at BGU, an affiliate of NASA’s Regional Planetary Image Facilities network.

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev alumnus Kfir Damari is the co-founder and vice president of marketing and community relations of SpaceIL, a nonprofit working to plant Israel’s flag on the moon. He is also a co-founder of the Tabookey and Metapacket information security companies. Kfir is an entrepreneur, engineer, researcher, lecturer, and communications and information security expert. He served as an officer in an elite technology unit in the IDF Intelligence Corps specializing in cyber technologies, and earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in communication systems engineering from BGU.

Dr. Shimrit Maman is a research associate in Ben-Gurion University of the Negev’s Homeland Security Institute and director of the Earth and Planetary Image Facility, also at BGU. Her research involves the application of satellite technologies to environmental challenges and climate change. An integral part of the research team leading BGUSAT, Israel’s first research nanosatellite, she also heads the Israeli Regional Support Office for the United Nations Platform for Space-Based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response, known as (U.N.-SPIDER).
