Prof. Itzhak Avital, M.D., MBA, is the executive medical director of the Legacy-Heritage Oncology Center at the Doctor Larry Norton Institute, Soroka University Medical Center. He also heads the Cancer Stem Cells Laboratory at BGU’s National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev (NIBN), and serves as co-chair of BGU’s Precision OncoMedicine Hub, which focuses on precision medicine in oncology and includes 38 members from 10 departments in Soroka and BGU. The hub serves as a platform for discussion and action in academic research on oncology, aiming to solve international cancer problems, and those specific to the Negev population. Prof. Avital teaches surgery at BGU’s Joyce and Irving Goldman Medical School and chairs the surgery department at Soroka.
