BGU to Build New Northern Campus

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has signed an agreement with the Israel Lands Administration to expand the University and build a new northern campus within the next four years.

The additional 57 acres of land, located across the train tracks from BGU’s main Marcus Family Campus in Beer-Sheva, will double the size of the University.

One of the main priorities of this expansion is to build more dormitories for BGU’s growing student population.

Unlike other Israeli universities where students continue to live at home with their families during their studies, many of BGU some 20,000 students leave home in different parts of Israel to “go away to school” in the Negev.

BGU’s northern campus will also be across the street from the Advanced Technologies Park (ATP) which is attracting international companies, such as EMC² and Deutsche Telecom, to Beer-Sheva.

“This is a historic step which will shape the character and identity of the university in the next 50 years,” says BGU President Prof. Rivka Carmi, M.D.
