A lively exchange ensued at the formal reception on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the residence of David Quarrey, British Ambassador to Israel, when Prince William found out that Ben-Gurion University of the Negev President Prof. Rivka Carmi was a pediatrician.

After mentioning to her that there was a shortage of pediatricians in the United Kingdom, Prof. Carmi, who is due to step down as president in December, told the prince without missing a beat, “I’m available as of January 1st.”

Prof. Carmi received an honorary knighthood, Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE), in 2015. She was one of only a handful of people from academia and the sciences in Israel invited to meet with the Duke of Cambridge during the reception.
