Jewish News One — Water scientists and engineers from Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, and France recently converged on BGU’s Sde Boker Campus to participate in the 1st French-Israeli Scientific Colloquium on Water Production and Wastewater Treatment.

This event was hosted by BGU’s Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (ZIWR) at the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, in cooperation with the Scientific Department at the Embassy of France in Israel.

The colloquium’s goals included sharing information about current water treatment technologies; discussing technological barriers; and identifying areas for research and development (R&D) collaborations in the Middle East.

“We are partners, real scientific partners for many years. In spite of the political difficulties, we keep working together. Unfortunately not so closely recently, but still we work together,” says Prof. Eilon Adar, ZIWR’s director, who was instrumental in making this summit a reality.

“Water can be an issue for peace or for conflict,” says France’s Ambassador to Israel Christophe Bigot.

“Of course water has to be shared with all people of this region. So water and working on water can be a way to promote peace,” adds Ambassador Bigot.
