Jewish Voice — The Delaware Jewish community’s relationship with Israel’s Negev region started many years ago through The Goldinger Trust, managed by the Jewish Federation of Delaware’s Jewish Fund for the Future, and more recently with Delaware’s participation in the Negev Funding Coalition, a consortium of Jewish federations directed by the Jewish Federations of North America.

Now the community’s support for Ben-Gurion University’s agricultural research has blossomed into a longstanding partnership. Delaware Jewish community leader Toni Young currently serves as first vice president on Americans for Ben-Gurion University’s national board and is slated to become the organization’s next national president. Her longtime friend and community leader, Dr. Barry Kayne, has agreed to become the inaugural Delaware chapter chair.

“When Toni asked if I would share with our community the miracles taking place at BGU, I said yes,” says Dr. Barry Kayne, who will be installed into his new position at a reception on May 18, 2016.

The installing officer will be Sam Katz, noted filmmaker, business and community leader, and former Americans for Ben-Gurion University Philadelphia Chapter co-chair and member of the Americans for Ben-Gurion University national board.

Joining Dr. Kayne as associate chairs for Americans for Ben-Gurion University’s Delaware Chapter are Bob Davis, Neil Hockstein, Karol Eng, chair of the Negev Funding Coalition, and Lelaine and Stuart Nemser, all of whom have personal experiences with the University.

This new chapter in Delaware will be a part of the Americans for Ben-Gurion University’s Mid-Atlantic Region, which includes active chapters in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
