Max Steinberg, originally from Woodland Hills, California, made aliyah, joining the Israel Defense Forces as a “lone soldier” (a young adult who moves to Israel without family and joins the army). He insisted on serving nowhere else but in the elite Golani 13 brigade. Max was 24 years old when he lost his life defending the land and the people he loved during Operation Protective Edge in July 2014.

The Max Steinberg Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in partnership with the fallen soldier’s family. The Fund will provide scholarships in perpetuity to BGU students with first priority going to lone soldiers, second priority going to veterans of the Golani brigade and third priority going to IDF veterans.
